Herec J. D. Cannon

J. D. Cannon (24. April 1922 - 20 May 2005) was an American actor best known for his role as Chief Clifford in the film Cool Hand Luke (1967). He was born as John Donovan Cannon in Salmon, Idaho. Cannon began his acting career on stage before transitioning to film and television. He made his film debut in 1958, appearing in The Goddess and The Naked and the Dead. Throughout his career, he appeared in numerous films, including Cimarron (1960), The Great White Hope (1970), and Bad Company (1972), among others. In addition to his film work, Cannon was active in television. He had recurring roles in popular shows like The Streets of San Francisco and McCloud. He also made guest appearances in several TV series such as The Twilight Zone, The Rockford Files, and Hawaii Five-O. Cannon's portrayal of Chief Clifford in Cool Hand Luke is considered one of his most memorable performances. The film, directed by Stuart Rosenberg and starring Paul Newman, tells the story of a rebellious prisoner in a Florida prison camp. Cannon's character, Chief Clifford, acts as a moral compass for the inmates and provides guidance to Luke (played by Newman). Despite his successful career, Cannon's personal life was relatively private. He passed away on May 20, 2005, in Hudson, New York, at the age of 83. His contribution to the entertainment industry, particularly his role in Cool Hand Luke, remains a significant part of his legacy.
